Two members from our club visited Baden-Baden to celebrate the Soroptimist Club’s 50th Charter anniversary. We were very well looked after with many events taking place during the visit including a lovely meal in an historic hotel.
We are linked to Baden-Baden because both the cities have UNESCO status so it was interesting to compare similarities such as the thermal baths.
It was good to get together to share ideas and listen to Dishi talking about membership and then Sally Bee, author and life coach talking us through ways of improving our daily life. Great Programme Action pressentations as well. We should be proud of our organisation!
It was a pleasure to be able to teach ladies at the local refuge to sew and knit, some of them trying their hand at it for the first time. We were made very welcome and we hope to do this on a regular basis.
Members of the club came together despite the inclement weather to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Boston Tea Party in Bath. We were joined by Cathy from Julian’s House, the cahrity that we support every year adn we donated some toiletries for the Women’s Refuge.
Some members also attended an event organised by Bath Abbey on th elives of certain women of Bath, either born in Bath or resided at some stage. Each speaker spoke eloquently about their aspiration and gave interesting talks.
Members came together for a lovely breakfast at the Boston Tea Party in Bath to raise money for the Prince’s Trust to help women’s career initiatives helped by the Trust. It was a great way to raise awareness, socialise and have fun all at the same time!
Members from the club came together to litter pick along the canal in Bath to highlight how much waste is left all around wherever we go. Litter should be put away in bins and the appropriate articles recycled. We picked up many plastic items, cans and paper which could so easily be recycled. We need to get away from single use plastic
Two of our members have been busy making much needed scrubs, scrub bags and hats for the local RUH hospital. Being self isolated has its advantages by enabling lots of time dedicated to making these items.
Bath Women’s Fund invited our club to join them for a walk to support International Women’s Day around Bath celebrating the lives of influencial women who were from Bath or had lived in Bath. The walk took us all over the city but the favourite photo is from the Royal Crescent.

We marked this period by holding an orange cafe meeting at a local church and engaging with those in the cafe, providing literature and information about the local group.
A selection of ring pulls have been collected over the last few months to send to the Purple Community Fund. With the help of the South West regional clubs we have collected quite a pile. These get sent to the charity and the ladies in the Philippines make fashionable goods out of them to give them a much deserved income.
There was a good turn out at the Regional meeting held in Cheddon Fitzpaine on Saturday. There were workshops, interesting speakers and also a chance to meet members from other regional clubs.
A few members from the club were invited by Bath MP, Wera Hobhouse to the Houses of Parliament.
The trip was very informative and involved going into the House of Lords chambers and the main chambers to see MPs at work followed by an afternoon tea.
It was President Diane’s last official duty of presentating a cheque to Julian House. This was her charity of the year and the money will specifically go to the Chippenham Women’s refuge who will put it towards an outing later on in the year.
We did several fund raising events such as a quiz and a bucket collection with some generous donations from our friendship links abroad.
For the 2nd year running the ladies who live in the local refuges around Wiltshire were represented by their artwork. Again there were many poignant paintings, drawings and poems on show and the exhibits were very thought provoking. The pain and the hope were there to be seen.
This year the exhibit was interactive with each entry having a podcast attached to it explaining more about the piece of art. There are certainly some talented artists within these refuges.
The exhibition was led by Wiltshire Council with accompanying Domestic Abuse partners such as Julian House who we have supported for many years now.
Another batch of blister packs delivered to Superdrug in Bath to help the Marie Curie charity. If you’re on medication why not take in your empty packs? Only at Superdurg stores that have a pharmacy though.
Members and guests were treated to a tour of Bath featuring ‘feisty women’ who were born or lived in Bath at some time in history. It was a very informative talk given by Graham and Jane who are part of the Mayor of Bath’s Corps of honorary guides, http://www.bathguides.org.uk
We learnt about Caroline Herschel, Lucy Locket and many more interesting women. We were lucky with the weather although it was pretty cold.
