Helping out with Julian House at the Chipping Sodbury cycle event

August 21, 2016

The annual cycle event can consist of 30, 60 or 100 miles in length and this event is organised by the Rotary club of Chipping Sodbury.  Julian House asked us if we could help serve at the 30 mile stage with providing cakes, snacks and drinks.

All the cyclists were in good spirits and were very appreciative of the spread laid on for them.  The money raised from registration fees and donations are then divided between many local charities including Julian House. Thankfully the weather was fine although there was quite a wind which would have been felt homeward bound.

Tea party to raise funds for the Meru Women’s Garden Project in Kenya

August 20, 2016

The Bath club got together on Sunday afternoon for a social gathering to raise money for the Federation Project, the Meru Women’s Garden Project in Kenya. this project helps women in poor areas to educate an increase their skills and knowledge so that they can be more efficient in food production thus reducing extreme hunger.

They can then produce their own crops, selling them and helping girls to attend school so that they are not hungry and better able to learn. The creation of breakfast Clubs will further reduce hunger at school and the girls will learn to provide sustainable food gardens. this will hopefully cascade down to future generations.

We were also able to take a look at our archives which date back to 1925 when Bath was a Venture club.  It’s going to take a while to archive these documents whilst making for interesting  reading.
